Blog # 7: Technology Related Info

I'm not sure I understand the whole "third party sites" arena and what the significance of them are. I saw some of them on flicker but not sure I really "get it" where they are concerned. I guess I'll just do a google search on third party sites and learn about them that way.

I became a tech junkie when I bought my first Mac Classic. I even subscribed to MacWorld magazine back then. What a simple machine it was and it helped to simplify my life: Term papers, even my thesis became a breeze. Technology has simplified my life in so many other ways. One way my life has been simplified was with my PDA. As an avid Franklin planner type and Covey 7 Habits person, the PDA helped me to find organizer heaven! (Let's just say that when Covey-Franklin merged I was in organizer heaven!) The small compact PDA meant I didn't have to carry around a huge planner from meeting to meeting and from life event to life event. Having a PDA also meant I could do away with paper address books...my PDa meant I would always have my important "stuff" with me no matter where'er I go.

My first PDA was a Palm IIIX. I bought it after doing tons of research online. I'm currently using a Palm i705. That was Palm's first attempt at an internet palm. I bought mine late, when the internet capability was already obsolete. It makes for a sharp looking PDA. My strategy with PDAs is to buy them a few years after their popularity wears down from e-bay. You can get great deals that way.

I'd like to get a Tungsten next with internet capabilities. That's about three years old...so that fits in with my strategy. Speaking of a wish list I also want a very powerful laptop (my old one died on me about two years ago...I think I exhausted the poor thing.)

These days technology moves so fast I've pretty much given up on trying to keep up with it. My strategy is to get the quickest fastest "thing" I can afford and get all the addons and accessories I can afford along with software and then hold onto it as long as possible. The upgrades move so fast its as if the makers of the technology want us to keep buying new stuff every two years. We can't succomb to the pressure!
